Since our last post Angela has been back in hospital once. After a night of serious coughing fits we took Angela back through Emergency and met the palliative care team (two doctors, a nurse and a social worker). They were able to answer a lot of our questions and talk through various scenarios with us. They arranged for us to visit Bear Cottage – the Children’s Hospice in Manly – and we spent a lovely weekend of respite there this last weekend.
Bear Cottage is a wonderful place. It is a purpose built house in Manly that provides respite to families of children in palliative care. It also provides end-of-life care for families who don’t want their child to pass away in hospital, but may not be able to accommodate them at home. It provides holistic care to the whole family. Lydia was able to play and Paul and I were able to relax with a view of the ocean. They provided meals for us and, importantly, they cared for Angela through the night. We loved our time there.

Great to get an update from you. Im really happy that you got to have a rest. What a wonderful place. It still makes me SO sad though that places like this need to be built though.

That’s excellent news that you could go and have a weekend together as a family but it not be too exhausting! It was great to see you when we were in Sydney – made me realise how much I miss you guys not being down here anymore. It was great just to be able to chat – sorry we didn’t see you Paul. Have a good time in Beijing.

Jen,
Juliette and Leonie mentioned to me that your little girl was sick, and reading through your blog my heart just ached for you both. Thank God that He is always, and will always watch over your little girl. You are in our prayers. I don’t think we have seen you since uni days, and am sorry it is under these circumstances. Thank you for the effort you have put into the blog over all these months so we can share this with you.
with love and prayers, Mike and Katie (and Harry and Miriam).
